Wine & wider region
The Silva Daskalakis winery is located in the Prefecture of Heraklion, specifically in the village of Siva. The wider area belongs to one of the zones of Protected Designation of Origin - PDO Dafnes, which concerns the variety Liatiko.
The place name Siva (-si-wa) refers to the god Siva (Dionysus). If there was a common background in the so-called Indo-European languages, then we can speculate that the god Siva-Dionysus was an object of worship in the region with a remnant of the toponym-Siva-which may conceal an ancient substrate of the language.
The area around the settlement of Siva in Malevizi has a gentle topography, fertile soil, ancient remains (carvings on the hill of St Nicholas, wine presses at the site of Kokkina Patitiria and Volakou, but also a linear B sign with a reference to the site of Pala-Paliani, etc.) and spring water, which makes it suitable for habitation from a long time ago. These inhabitants probably named the area Shiva after the worship of the god Shiva - Dionysus, whose god's name is preserved in the oldest "living" religion on the planet, the Hindu religion.

SOIL
The vineyards of the Silva winery are located around the winery area and some in more remote areas, so that the soil of the vineyards varies. Due to the diversity of the microclimate of the vineyards, it adds an extra complexity to the final product. The soils are predominantly clayey with some calcareous rocks, clay loam and occasionally sandy.
